(The Gainesville Sun) OCALA, FL – July 16, 2012 – The Internet cafe patron who shot and injured two men as they tried to rob the business will likely not face any criminal charges. “Based on what I have seen and what I know at this time, I don’t anticipate filing any charges,” said Bill Gladson of the State Attorney’s Office for 5th Judicial Circuit. Gladson said he has reviewed the security surveillance video from the cafe. While he still awaits final reports from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, he said the shooting appeared justified. Samuel Williams, 71, who fired the shots, has a concealed weapons permit, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Under Florida law, a person is allowed to use deadly force if he or she fears death or serious injury to themselves or others. As long as the person isn’t committing a crime and is in a place where he or she has a right to be, they are considered to be acting within the law. Williams, who lives in Ocala, could not be reached for comment on Monday. But at least one of his 30 fellow patrons at the cafe wants to thank him. “I think he is wonderful. If he wouldn’t have been there, there could have been some innocent people shot,” said Mary Beach. Beach was sitting in with her back to the door Friday night and didn’t realize what was happening until she heard shots. “I heard pop, pop; then pop, pop, pop, all at once,” she said. “In the confusion I never really got to see his (Williams) face.” Surveillance video of the incident was …

instead of trying to suppress guns, why not encourage them, if every 1 out of 20 or 30 citizens were trained and had guns, crime rates would drop considerably. I am a 12 year old and I even know this, why can our goverment figure this out.

My main argument is that a civilian is better protected if there are less guns in the country as they are less likely to be attacked. Prevention (limit guns) is better than cure (shoot someone). I think you Americans will need a few hundred years to learn this. You are still a relatively young (and immature) nation. You only just got rid of mainstream racism. You still have a homophopia issue. You guys have a lot to learn!

It may mean less “shootings”, but it will mean many more massacres. This is the difference between you, and an American. You sacrifice other men, women, and children for what you call “greater good”. First of all, it’s a lot harder to run than to pull a trigger. A bullet moves faster than the speed of sound. Let me tell you something, if our government tried to take the second amendment away; then America will go into civil war. Do you know how many people a man armed with a knife could kill, when nobody around him is allowed to protect themselves? There were literally countless massacres before the gun. You talk as if you blame the gun for a murder.
It’s ALOT more work to kill without a gun and you have the option to run when the attacker doesn’t have a gun. So no gun = no massacres. As for your argument that ‘there’ll still be shootings’ I agree but if the border controls and police are constantly taking guns off the street there’ll be fewer guns left in the country. Therefore as there are less guns there’ll be less shootings and the small number of shootings that do happen will be criminal on criminal. Which I for one can accept.
The Colorado shooter was not following laws. He didn’t shoot a bunch of people in a GUN STORE, he shot them in an area where guns were banned. Criminals get a hold on illegal stuff all the time.

This might surprise you, but criminals don’t tend to follow the laws that much. You can kill someone with virtually anything, including your bare hands. A gun is an excellent method of self defense, because you can’t dodge a bullet, it takes only seconds to take down a criminal.

You can see when tear gas is in the area. Guy had ARMOR NOT bullet proof armor. Big difference. Plus, a bullet proof vest leaves your heart and lungs as open targets (you fire a rifle from the side). We are not saying, if one other person was armed. We are saying, about 20-30 of them. There technically is no such thing as a bullet “proof” vest. It would stop a 9mm, but if you throw a high power revolver in the mix. A 357 mag. probably would have been enough to stop that kid.
Think, were are most shooting reported at? Always the last place you would expect to see another gun. Why else would schools be the number one target for shootings? If two kids get pissed at each other, let them beat the living shit out of each other. Odds are, two enemies enter the ring. Two friends leave. Yes, that actually works that way. And, for the record. Ah! Florida. I lived in Tampa until early 2007. Moved North to get away from the 20 or so million people in Florida. Unless it has changed it is 18 to possess a handgun in Florida & you CAN open carry under specific conditions (i.e. to & from & during camping, hiking, etc.). One more thing: Some states issue CCL at 18 so…find a state Florida honors & apply for a non-resident CCL from the state that issues at 18 & up.

Well, Florida usually isn’t to bad with gun laws. I live so far out in the boonies that I can just go in the back yard, and pop off a few rounds. (The greatness of living in the country.) I’ll have to get some details. Thanks for the info.
Federal law is 18 to buy and possess “long arms” and 21 to buy a handgun and handgun ammunition. But…federal law is 18 to POSSESS a handgun. Interesting isn’t it? Most states the law is 18 for handgun possession. Also, some states have been sued for not issuing concealed carry licenses to those 18 to 20. Check your state laws and see. You may be able to open carry if nothing else until 21 but learn the laws first!
